Doja Cat Shines at 2025 MTV VMAs with Show-Stopping Performance

Doja Cat delivered a memorable performance at the 2025 MTV VMAs, cementing her reputation as one of the top hip-hop and pop performers.
She opened her set alongside legendary saxophonist Kenny G, transitioning seamlessly into her 80s-inspired track “Jealous Type.” The performance highlighted her choreography, a skill she has honed since her early dance days. Doja previously explained to Billboard that dancing taught her to be emotive and control her body in a unique way, which was evident in her robotic-inspired moves that perfectly paid homage to the 80s.
Vocally, Doja Cat was in full command, blending rapping and singing while maintaining constant motion. Her rendition of the outro for “Jealous Type” showcased her power ballad-style vocals, adding a shimmering, nostalgic touch to the performance.
Beyond her performance, Doja Cat walked away with the Best K-pop Song award for her contribution to LISA’s “Born Again,” featuring RAYE. She was also nominated for Song of the Summer for “Jealous Type,” the lead single from her upcoming album, Vie.
Vie, French for “life,” is set for release on September 26 and will feature 15 tracks. Doja shared with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that the album centers on love, inspired by personal experiences and relationships. She described the project as exploring themes of rushing, love bombing, and the naivete that comes with romantic experiences.
Doja Cat’s VMAs performance demonstrates her growth as an entertainer, blending vocal prowess, dynamic choreography, and stage presence while building anticipation for her new album.
