BET sets a tribute for legend Andre Harrell

The Shade Room speaks about how just a few weeks after the passing of Andre Harrel a tribute has been set for him by BET. The tribute will be fromsome of his closest friends as well as the ones that benefited from his expertise as a figure in modern music. There will be several celebrities to give him a proper send-off, including Mariah Carey, Babyface, Jamie Foxx, Chris Rock, Naomi Campbell, Lee Daniels, Russell Simmons, Kimora Lee Simmons and Robin Thicke.

Andre Harrell, whose Uptown Records is considered one of the key bridges between hip-hop and R&B, died of heart failure Thursday night at his West Hollywood home. He was 59 and his death was confirmed by his former wife.

Harrell was a key to the careers of Sean Combs, Mary J. Blige, Heavy D & The Boyz, and Jodeci, among many others. His label, Uptown Records, is remembered as one of the R&B giants of the 1990s, finding a niche as a home for artists who were sophisticated and smooth, yet retaining its street edge.

Given the lives he has had an impact on it is no surprise to see many influential artists wanting to be part of his tribute.

The BET broadcast tribute will be called “Mr. Champagne and Bubbles” — which was a nickname for Andre. There will be several celebrities on hand to give him a proper send-off, including Mariah Carey, Babyface, Jamie Foxx, Chris Rock, Naomi Campbell, Lee Daniels, Russell Simmons, Kimora Lee Simmons and Robin Thicke.
