The Alchemist Denies Erykah Badu Collaboration Album Dropping Last Week

Fans eagerly awaited the release of Abi & Alan, a collaborative album between The Alchemist and Erykah Badu, last Friday, August 29. Many believed the project was set to drop, including Badu herself.
The Alchemist has now clarified that the album was never scheduled for release. On X, he wrote, “Please show me where i said anything was coming out today.” When fans shared posts of Badu hyping the album, he added, “This is not from me. Show me where i ever posted this lol.” He also noted, “If you follow me, you know when i got something to drop i make it very clear when its available and where.”
The situation caused confusion because Badu seemed to think the release was imminent. In a video statement addressing the delay, she said, “The Alchemist told me to tell y’all the album is not dropping at midnight.” No new release date has been announced.
The project was first teased in December 2024, when The Alchemist shared a series of studio photos with Badu. He captioned the images “Life altering,” without providing further details. The collaboration was officially confirmed in March 2025, but information on the album’s content remains limited.
Erykah Badu’s last studio album, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh), debuted in March 2010 at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Since then, she released a compilation album, Icon, and a mixtape, But You Caint Use My Phone in 2015, along with a handful of featured appearances. Most recently, she appeared on Rapsody’s Grammy-winning track “3:AM,” a celebration of late-night love.
Fans can expect Abi & Alan to arrive eventually, but for now, both The Alchemist and Erykah Badu are keeping details under wraps. The project remains one of the most anticipated releases of 2025, leaving listeners eager for a confirmed date.
