Doechii Rides Grammy Wave to New Chart Heights with ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’

Doechii’s meteoric rise shows no signs of slowing down following her historic Grammy win and show-stopping performance at the 2025 awards ceremony.

On February 2, the Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) rapper became only the third woman in history to win Best Rap Album, joining Lauryn Hill (1997, with the Fugees) and Cardi B (2019). She further solidified her status as a rap powerhouse with an electrifying performance of “Catfish” and “Denial Is A River,” dazzling the audience with her commanding stage presence and intricate choreography.

A Post-Grammy Surge

In the week following her Grammy victory, Doechii’s album, Alligator Bites Never Heal, has skyrocketed up the Billboard 200 to land at No. 14, marking her first-ever top 20 album. The project more than doubled in sales, moving 31,000 units and proving that the Grammy bump is very real.

Adding to the momentum, her hit “Denial Is A River” has climbed to No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her highest-charting single to date.

A Kanye-Inspired Celebration

To celebrate her Grammy moment, Doechii wasted no time dropping new music. Hours after her win, she released “Nosebleeds,” a track that pays homage to Kanye West’s iconic 2005 Grammy speech.

With playful confidence, Doechii reworks Ye’s famous lines:

“I don’t know, is she gonna go crazy? Is she gonna go crazy? / Errbody wanted to know what Doechii would do if she didn’t win / I guess we’ll never—”

The reference harks back to Kanye’s now-legendary words upon winning Best Rap Album for The College Dropout:

“Everybody asked me the question, they wanted to know, I know he’s gonna wild out, he’s gonna do something crazy! Everybody wanted to know what I would do if I didn’t win… I guess we’ll never know.”

A Theatrical Approach to Hip-Hop

Beyond her music, Doechii has been turning heads with her cinematic approach to visuals. Her latest music video, “Denial Is A River,” was teased with a series of hilarious, 90s sitcom-style skits under the title The Denial Is A River Show, leaving fans guessing about what was coming next.

The final product? A chaotic house party-meets-performance-art piece, featuring an all-star lineup of guests, including Zack Fox, Earl Sweatshirt, Teezo Touchdown, DJ Miss Milan, ScHoolboy Q, SiR, Baby Tate, Rickey Thompson, and H Wood. The video ends with a literal explosion, symbolizing Doechii’s unstoppable ascent in the music industry.

Hip-Hop’s New Leader?

As accolades pour in, Doechii has earned co-signs from some of hip-hop’s biggest names. In December 2024, Killer Mike called her “the leader in rap right now”, hailing her as a true artist with an unmatched creative vision.

With a Grammy win, a chart-climbing album, and a growing cultural impact, Doechii is proving that she’s not just riding a wave—she’s making one.
