Cardi B to Drop New Single “Imaginary Players” Ahead of Long-Awaited Album ‘AM I THE DRAMA?’

Cardi B is giving fans another preview of her upcoming sophomore album AM I THE DRAMA? with the release of her new single, “Imaginary Players.” The Bronx rapper announced the track on Instagram, confirming it will arrive this Friday, August 15, as reported by Billboard.
The cover art shows Cardi crouched in front of a vintage Rolls-Royce, wearing a white fur coat, tan thigh-high boots, and a bright pink wig. The extravagant look immediately drew excitement from her 163 million followers. Comments flooded in with praise, including predictions that the song could become her next chart-topper.
“Imaginary Players” follows “Outside,” the lead single from the project. That track sparked speculation of being aimed at her ex-husband Offset and debuted at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Cardi’s 13th top 10 hit. It also reached number one on both the Rhythmic and Rap Airplay charts. Matching or surpassing that performance will be a challenge, but the momentum around the new single is strong.
Fans have been waiting seven years for AM I THE DRAMA?, making it one of the most anticipated releases of 2025. Cardi’s debut album, Invasion of Privacy, was a massive commercial and critical success. It won Best Rap Album at the GRAMMY Awards, making her the first solo female rapper to achieve that honor, and every song on the record has been certified platinum or higher by the RIAA.
The 23-track AM I THE DRAMA? has already sparked debate for including “WAP” (2020) with Megan Thee Stallion and “Up” (2021). Cardi addressed the criticism on X, stating, “This will be the last and only time I’m gonna address this. ‘WAP’ and ‘Up’ are two of my biggest songs, my fans have been asking me to put them on an album, and people search for them on IOP all the time… they deserve a home.”
With “Imaginary Players” set to drop in days, Cardi B is keeping fans engaged while building anticipation for an album that will have to meet the high standard set by her debut. The single’s release will be another key moment in a rollout that blends controversy, star power, and undeniable chart potential.
