Drake’s New Single “What Did I Miss?” Reignites Feud Talk, Tops Charts Despite Mixed Reactions

Drake is back in the spotlight following the surprise release of his latest single, What Did I Miss?—a reflective track that dives headfirst into the aftermath of his viral feud with Kendrick Lamar. Debuting over the weekend, the Toronto rapper wasted no time in addressing the drama that’s dominated headlines in recent months, and fans have been quick to dissect every bar.

In the song, Drake questions the loyalty of those who abandoned him when the feud peaked. “Last time I looked to my right, you ns was standing beside me / How can some people I love hang around pes who try me?” he raps, clearly referencing the shifting alliances that surfaced during the lyrical battle between him and Kendrick. He also takes subtle shots at Kendrick’s Pop Out performance, adding more fuel to the ongoing narrative that the two hip-hop titans are far from done trading blows.

Reactions to What Did I Miss? have been mixed. While many fans praised Drake’s delivery and production, others felt the timing and tone of the release came off as forced. One of the most vocal critics was Charlamagne Tha God, who addressed the track and its music video during The Breakfast Club. His main critique? The video’s heavy use of firearms.

“It’s a cool record, I mean Drake can rap, Drake can make music—we know that,” Charlamagne said. “But y’all don’t think it’s extremely corny for him to be in a video surrounded by guns? Why is he in the video surrounded by guns? What is the point?” His comments, captured in a viral clip shared by Joe Budden Clips on X, sparked their own wave of commentary online.

Charlamagne went on to argue that the single would’ve had more impact if Drake had remained silent in recent months. “This record would make a lot of sense if Drake hadn’t said nothing for the last year and a half. If he hadn’t said a word, no lawsuits, no nothing… That would make more sense, but you’re in the video surrounded by a bunch of choppers?”

Despite the criticism, What Did I Miss? is already a commercial success. It soared to the top of Spotify and Apple Music charts within hours of its release, a testament to Drake’s continued grip on mainstream hip-hop. The track is expected to appear on his upcoming ninth studio album, ICEMAN, which he teased during a weekend livestream.

Though an official release date for ICEMAN has yet to be announced, Drake previewed more unreleased tracks, hinting that fans won’t have to wait long. As the dust settles from his feud with Kendrick Lamar, it’s clear that Drake is far from done making statements—and the world is still listening.
