Drake Claps Back at T-Pain Over Comments Suggesting He Should Step Away from Music

Drake has fired back at T-Pain following recent remarks the “Buy U a Drank” hitmaker made about the Toronto superstar’s place in the music industry. Speaking on the Crash Dummies podcast, T-Pain suggested that Drake isn’t following the career advice he once preached about knowing when to bow out gracefully.

“One thing I learned from Drake—but one thing he hasn’t followed his own words. Drake said, ‘I wanna be one of them people that gracefully bow out and not get kicked out,’” T-Pain explained during the interview. He continued by reflecting on his own approach: “I have ever since said, ‘Thank y’all, I appreciate y’all. I’ll see y’all when I drop—don’t worry about it, I’ll just drop something. Let me know if you heard it.’ Drake is like, ‘No, listen. OK, I got another one. Hold on, check this out. Y’all ain’t like that one? OK, real quick, just one more. Let me try one more.’”

It didn’t take long for Drake to catch wind of the comments. In true Drake fashion, he responded with a short but pointed Instagram comment aimed directly at T-Pain. “This guy always had resentment for me 😂,” Drake wrote, making it clear that he felt the remarks were laced with underlying bitterness.

T-Pain’s history of giving unfiltered opinions on Drake isn’t new. Earlier this year, T-Pain speculated on the making of Drake and PartyNextDoor’s joint project $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. He suggested the album might have been pieced together from leftover tracks. “I feel like [Drake] recorded a bunch of shit [and] in order to keep PARTY around, [he said], ‘You can take 10, 15 of these songs, put a verse on them and that’s our album,’” T-Pain said on the podcast. He added that several of the songs sounded like solo Drake tracks that didn’t make the cut for previous albums.

T-Pain has also made headlines recently after a video of him dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track went viral. However, he was quick to shut down any speculation that he was picking sides in the ongoing Drake vs. Kendrick feud. “Drake or Kendrick? I choose to mind my fucking business,” he stated during a different interview. “It ain’t got nothing to do with me. It ain’t gonna hurt my pockets if I pick one or the other. Don’t give a fuck.”

As the back-and-forth between Drake and T-Pain continues to stir conversation online, fans are watching closely to see if either artist will address the situation further. For now, Drake’s quick jab on Instagram keeps the narrative alive, leaving the next move up to T-Pain.
