Cardi B’s “Imaginary Playerz” Struggles to Make an Impact on the Charts Despite Viral Video

Cardi B has dropped her latest single, “Imaginary Playerz,” which samples Jay-Z’s 1997 classic. Despite the high-profile sample, the track struggled to make a major impact on the charts, debuting at No. 147 on the Spotify U.S. chart and No. 56 on Apple Music, according to AllHipHop.
The music video, however, has performed strongly online, accumulating 2.5 million views on YouTube within days of its release.
“Imaginary Playerz” is the fourth single from Cardi B’s upcoming sophomore album, Am I The Drama?, scheduled for release on September 19. During a recent livestream, Cardi explained her choice of single, emphasizing its bold message. She said, “I had to come like this, I had to come strong, and shtting on you btches. I love this record and I don’t give a fck what nobody say and I’m standing on that, y’all can suck my dck and I know I ate that sh*t.”
Reactions to the track have been mixed. Some listeners praised it, while others felt it fell short. Rapper Mickey Factz suggested Cardi could have improved the track with his input, posting on TikTok, “Cardi B shoulda called me to kill this beat even more. Ima email, dm, text away … I’ve helped so many people.” She has not responded to the comments.
Outside of music, Cardi B has been in the spotlight for personal matters, including her divorce from Offset and her new relationship with NFL star Stefon Diggs. Recent rumors of a pregnancy surfaced earlier this month, which Cardi quickly denied during a livestream, saying, “‘We thirty weeks pregnant’? No, you stupid btch. I’m just fcking out of breath ’cause I have asthma… Stop fcking being funny in this btch before you get motherf*cking blocked.”
With the release of “Imaginary Playerz,” Cardi B continues to build anticipation for Am I The Drama? and maintain her presence in both music and pop culture.
