Jackson suffered a major career setback following a wardrobe mishap at the 2004 Super Bowl with Justin Timberlake. Now, Timberlake is apologizing 17 years later and Jackson’s reaction is legendary.

The feud between Timberlake and Jackson dates back to 2004 during the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show. The singers, who were good friends back then, were performing the NSYNC alum’s song, “Rock Ur Body,” in front of millions of viewers when Timberlake ripped Jackson’s top, exposing her breast.

The singer who was visibly shocked and embarrassed would later be banned from The Super Bowl while Timberlake carried on unbothered .The incident also made Janet Jackson to be blacklisted from The Grammys that year. To add salt to her wounds her album, Damita Jo became her lowest-selling album since her debut album. Timberlake on the other hand moved on with his career, never offering Jackson an apology.

Timberlake has now offered both Jackson and Britney Spears an apology after throwing Jackson under the bus 17 years later. The apology comes amid the FX/Hulu documentary The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears, which showcases Timberlake’s terrible behavior towards his ex, Britney Spears.

“I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right,” Timberlake wrote in an Instagram post. “I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism. I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.”

Through her Instagram, Janet Jackson issued a heartfelt reaction to her fans and supporters  for making her single ‘Control,’ No. 1 35 years after its release.
