Nas Talks About his feud with Jay-Z! The Jay-Z and Nas feud has got to be the biggest rap feuds of all time. To this effect, it has become an indelible chapter of hip-hop history. The beef emanated from a series of incidents in the mid-1990s, after the release of Jay – Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt and Nas’ sophomore effort.
It wasn’t until 2001 that the feud reached its peak when Jay-Z targeted Nas in his “Takeover” diss track. Nas, in a swift rejoinder, fired back with the scathing “Ether.
The exchange of jabs would continue over the next couple of years before Nas and Jay-Z publicly ended their feud in 2005 during the former’s I Declare War Tour. The memorable moment took place at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where Nas joined Jay-Z on stage and shook hands.
During a recent appearance on Rick Rubin‘s Broken Record podcast, Nas explained that it was a defining moment for him realizing that these feuds could really come to life. The OGs before him did it, as well, like a rite of passage, but the stakes were high for Jay-Z and Nas at the time. “I was honored to have that part of my life happen because that’s how I saw some of the greats do it coming up. I saw some of the greats do it,” the King’s Disease rapper explained.
